Roughly 215km (135mi) south of San Francisco is this little gem of a bridge on highway 1, the Bixby Creek bridge. As it’s name suggests, this bridge allows highway 1 to cross Bixby Creek along the beautiful Big Sur coastline region of California. Built in 1932, the bridge itself is fairly typical of many other concrete arch bridges scattered along the west coast, but what makes the Bixby Creek Bridge stand out from the rest is it’s stunning location. With rolling mountains on one side and the Pacific ocean on the other the bridge is quite popular with the tourists looking to stretch their legs and take a quick snapshot of the scenery.
